About Us
Lower Merion Township Scholarship Fund (LMTSF) was founded in 1965 for the purpose of providing financial assistance, to graduates of the Lower Merion public high schools, who demonstrate financial need. All students who apply and are determined to have financial need will receive financial help. The LMTSF Board of Governors are volunteers. All financial information provided by applicants is forwarded directly to our financial consultant, who does not reside in Lower Merion Township. The consultant is a financial officer of a leading university. The LMTSF Board members never see the individual financial information but receive a need dollar figure determined by the consultant for each school the applicants are considering.
The scholarship is funded through various sources. The largest sources are the Magazine Drive, Special Awards established in honor or memory of individuals, The Taste of Lower Merion, a community wide solicitation and special gifts, and fund raisers sponsored by various high school organizations. This year we were able to provide 42 new grants and 78 renewals, totaling $110,000. The minimum grant was $500/year and the maximum was $1500/year.
The Scholarship Fund will provide grants for four years or eight terms, PROVIDED the student reapplies annually and continues to demonstrate financial need. The LMTSF does not provide scholarships for summer terms. Schools on trimesters or quarterly systems are paid as if two terms per year.
Deadline for all applications, new and renewal, is FEBRUARY 15. Students applying for the first time should pick up application packets in the high school guidance office any time after November 1. Renewal applications can be downloaded from this site.
